Michigan Association coordinated a work camp to help with the recovery after Hurricane Katrina April 23-28, 2007.   Three people from our area went on this mission trip.   They have many stories to share about their experiences.  If you would like to hear about the trip contact Dan Steeves to schedule a Mission Interrupter to visit your congregation.

Hurricane Recovery—New Orleans

Rev Henrietta Andrews, Marisa McCoy and Paul Van Oyen will be visiting our Mexican Partners in mid July, to renew relationships after several years of limited contact.

This will be the planning visit for at least 2 youth mission trips planned by  Congregational Church of Birmingham in 2008.

In addition to these events, Rev Henrietta will be working out plans for our providing ongoing support to their building projects.

We look forward to news to share upon their return!

Malawi—Tabita Project

FCC Flat Rock & Gibraltar send monetary and Joy Boxes to help the people of Ntchewu, Malawi who are striving to become self-sufficient.

This is done to help the farmers grow food crops by helping to purchase farming supplies after years of drought, assisting with improving access to educational materials through items sent in Joy Boxes, and assisting families abilities to support themselves through the sewing supplies sent in Joy Boxes.

Our donations help improve health care by providing health supplies from the Joy Boxes to the nearest hospital where even first aid supplies are rare.

Reverend Smart Msinkhu entered our lives and hearts in the summer of 2004, when he came for a month long visit with Rev. Lewis Carlson who was serving as interim pastor at our church.

Rev. Smart told of his 19 congregations spread around Ntchewu, Malawi.  How he managed to visit each one regularly, in addition to completing his theological studies at the university.  His big smile and eagerness to share a hug with everyone touched our hearts.
